Brick Calculator: Estimate Materials for Your Project
Our Brick Calculator helps you accurately determine how many bricks you’ll need for your construction project. Whether you’re building a wall, house, or garden feature, this tool eliminates guesswork and helps you order the right amount of materials while accounting for mortar joints and waste.
Why Calculate Bricks Accurately?
Proper brick estimation prevents costly over-ordering or frustrating shortages during construction. Our calculator accounts for wall dimensions, brick size, mortar thickness, and includes a waste factor for practical real-world results.
How the Brick Calculator Works
The calculator uses these formulas to compute brick requirements:
Bricks per Square Meter
Bricks/m² = 1 / ((Brick Length + Mortar) × (Brick Height + Mortar))
Total Bricks Needed
Total Bricks = Wall Area × Bricks/m² × Wall Thickness Factor
Understanding Your Results
The calculator provides four key metrics:
- Bricks Needed: Exact calculated number of bricks
- With Waste: Total including your specified waste percentage
- Wall Area: Total surface area in square meters
- Bricks per m²: Density based on your brick size
Frequently Asked Questions
For standard UK bricks (215×102.5×65mm) with 10mm mortar joints: about 60 bricks/m² for a single-brick wall (102.5mm thick). Double this for double-brick walls. Our calculator automatically adjusts for your specific brick size and wall thickness.
Standard mortar joints are typically 10mm (0.4 inches). Thinner joints (down to 5mm) are possible with precision bricks, while thicker joints (up to 15mm) may be used with rustic or irregular bricks.
